Different things in our life make us feel stressed. A bad day at work, a ticket for your car, lost wallet or a mess you children made back at home. You will need to learn how to relax yourself and avoid stress as much as you can if you want to live a long and healthy life. Here are a few creative methods for relaxing at the end of the day.
Stretching right before going to bed can improve the quality of your sleep. If you stretch every night, you will notice the change almost immediately – you will wake up relaxed and without a headache. Many people have problems with leaving their bed in the morning, and stretching in late hours will help you wake up easily. Those who think that they have enough energy can even chose to do yoga instead. Half an hour of stretching or yoga will help you relax, your body will produce more serotonin, the hormone that improves our mood, and the workout itself will not cause sleeplessness as it doesn’t have the same effect as, for example, cardio exercising.
- Hot bath
A hot bath is right what your body needs after a hard day at work. Fill your bathtub with really hot water and add a little bit of chamomile or lavender scented essential oil which also has a relaxing effect on your body. Having an hour on your own is not too much, even if you are really busy and you have a family to take care of. Too much stress in our lives can cause different health issues, so it is not something that you should be ignored.
- Chocolate, honey and tea
Believe it or not, a cup of green or black tea in the evening can do wonders for your whole body. Not only that this is much healthier than a glass of any carbonated drink, but it will also calm you if you are agitated and nervous. In addition, if you like your tea sweet, use a teaspoon of honey to sweeten it, and avoid sugar or artificial sweeteners. That is a natural cure for uneasiness and restlessness. Don’t be concerned with gaining weight, you can enjoy a dark chocolate bar guilty free, as dark chocolate, without added sugar, has a completely different effect on your body. Plus, chocolate contains phenylethylamine, magnesium and anandamide, which affect stress levels, promotes relaxation and increase endorphin levels in our bodies. In other words, being happy while eating chocolate is not a myth!
Cheese and wine
Wine lovers are going to love this one – a glass of wine each night will improve your blood circulation and benefit your whole cardiovascular system. Of course, getting drunk on wine won’t bring anything good, and too much wine can even cause you to feel depressed. But if you know how to make a balance, you will see good results. Eat some cheese with that glass of wine and it will help you sleep and feel better. Serotonin and melatonin levels in your body will raise due to some amino acids found in cheese. So, sit back and relax over a glass of your favorite drink and a bite of your favorite food.
- Foot massage
Our feet don’t really get the attention they deserve. We spend all day putting pressure on our feet and soles, so a 10 minute massage every night is the least you can do for your feet. Any kind of massage will lower your cortisol levels and calm your whole body by normalizing adrenaline levels too. Our body will release substances that will relax our mind even when a nonprofessional is giving us the massage. Reduce the tension you feel by massaging your feet every night – you can do this by yourself or you can use a foot massager. Give your feet the treatment they need, and see what you’ve been missing all this time.
Listen to your favorite music
While listening to music, we like can often influence our mood and make the stress go away. It is no wonder that many parents play music to their babies in order to pacify them. If you are having troubles sleeping, put your earphones on and play your favorite playlist. Make sure that you don’t play the music too loud as this can disrupt your sleep if you fall asleep with your headphones on. It might be hard to get used to this, but after a few nights, you will notice the change in your mood when you wake up.
